First thing this morning, as I drew back the lounge curtains, I noticed a large pebble on top of our front garden wall. It was about 4'' round and about an inch thick so heavy. It must, of course, have been placed there by someone overnight. Apart from being very inviting to any local 'ne'r do well' to throw, it occurred to me that it might be some sort of message system to those in the know! In any case, out I went to remove it. It then got even weirder - scrawled on it in black permanent marker were the words 'never alone'! It's the strangest thing - anyone got any ideas what it might be about? Is it supposed to be some strange reassurance in these 'lockdown' times and recipients are supposed to 'pass it on'? If so, it singularly failed here as we think it's a bit 'spooky'!!

No worries @Happygirl thanks for thinking of us. We're a long way from Bristol anyway!! ๐ If I see a burglar I will hit him in the head with the stone!!
Haven't heard or read about this one [@Happygirl] it may be nothing like this for @harryflatters but it's always good to get the heads up and know these things. Whether real or not.
@harryflatters i do not want to frighten you and didn't know whether or not to say this but i have looked into this thing for you and found this.....
Homeowners are being warned that, if the stones are left outside homes or under the wheels of cars, it could mean they are being targeted by burglars.
The alert has been sparked amid fears burglars are using new tricks to try and work out which houses are left empty and which cars are left unattended during the daytime by owners.
The Bristol Post reports that Neighbourhood Watch bosses are urging people to be vigilant over the stones.
If you have received these leaflets/charity bags and you have found white stones outside of your property or by your vehicle please contact 101 and let the police know. Tell the operator to tag your call as 'Portishead NHW intel',โ he added.
I just wanted you to be on your guard, but it isn't likely that. It goes on to say to contact the police if you find one in your drive, wall or near a tyre of a car.I wouldn't feel right if i had not told you and have read this on 3 different sites
It's strange for it to be placed on your wall @harryflatters , but like @roz said, ppl do rock painting. Certainly going on down here at present.
@harryflatters that would worry me - not reassure me. We are watching Weird or What presented by William Shatner. It would fit nicely into his programme.
Well, we don't think it's normal even for Norfolk!! I definitely won't be creeping about tonight to 'spook' someone else out!!
Very strange @harryflatters but as @roz and @Happygirl mention, I have heard of them before.
It is to give reassurance and hope to others @harryflatters , this happened some where in Dorset some while ago now,
@harryflatters it does seem a little spooky.
I know that children (and adults sometimes) paint rocks and hide them in public places, parks etc. If you find one you can either keep it or hide it somewhere for others to find but this doesn't sound like one of those.
