I suppose there will be a 'knock on' effect with people buying other oils but can't see why vegetable oil should be short. It's sunflower oil that will be the problem since the majority of it used to come from Ukraine - it's their national flower! They would normally be planting now for next years crop but that's not going to happen of course - will be years before those poor people get back to anything like normal.
My local Lidl had some vegetable oil, and olive oil @Janet 💋🍰🍝🍹 and @roz.
We should be ok for Lidl rapeseed oil - it's British!! Rapeseed oil has a high 'burn' temperature too, which is good.
Well whatever the reason, ppl should only buy the essential, there's no need to over buy, just because something is going on. The odd little back up is ok, and you can always top up mid week. Less obvious that way.
ALSO SOME NEWS JUST IN............
Supermarkets across the UK are putting limit of what customers can buy as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine which is causing supply-chain problems. Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose and other brands are restricting how much cooking oil customers can buy.
Tesco customers can buy three items each while Waitrose and Morrisons shoppers can get just two, according to the BBC. The British Retail Consortium's (BRC) Tom Holder said it would be a temporary measure "to ensure availability for everyone." Other supermarkets, such as Iceland, are also placing limits on oil purchases, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Iceland's managing director, Richard Walker, said sunflower oil sales are rationed to one per customer. Walker told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "It is not as frenzied as the toilet roll panic buying from a couple of years ago, and we are managing to maintain an offer. But yes, we are limiting purchases and we've moved into smaller packs to allow existing stocks in the market to service more customers."
