I know you will all be shocked to know I am, as of yesterday, the proud, if somewhat confused owner, of a Samsung Galaxy A34 5G 'smart' 'phone! They have been nagging me for years to get a 'smart' phone!! I've always resisted, sticking with my trusty old Samsung 'dumb' phone. However, after 13 years, it's screen refused to light up when opened so it became unusable. I've managed to work out how to turn the new one on!! Also managed to work out clock, times etc. and weather forecast! Kept same number but had to change from EE to Vodafone so SIM activation is 'next working day' which, because today is a Bank Holiday, is tomorrow!! I will let you know how I progress - or not!!

My phone is a flip top TT3 with large numbers and it speaks the numbers whilst dialling and I can text in the old fashioned way like - press once for .., twice for... and trice for..., I don't do text pull stop but I lovingly call the phone a "Captain Kirk Communicator"- "Beam me up, Scotty!" I had a Motorola 7 two years ago and just could not get the hang of it, so Steven had it as an extra Christmas present. It did not last long after he dropped onto the floor. "No Insurance!" @harryflatters
Ha! @harryflatters - didn't drown - twice, but nearly died up a mountain on a narrow path (me driving) with a precipice on my side and a rock wall on the other..... Anyway, I drive a BlackBerry, so no idea about these modern things, although the back's falling off mine and must order a new one. What is the problem with the Galaxy? Chris has an older one and I've just persuaded him to ditch the filthy screen cover. All phones nowadays have Corning® Gorilla® Glass, which is damn nearly indestructible. It looks so much sleeker and also, a cover buggers up the touch-screen capabilities. Just saying....
My previous post was the first I have done from my new phone @Pinkaholic79 💖🦄🌺 but tags don't appear to come up! Still, never mind - more progress of sorts! Can't say I find it easier on mobile yet!!
Not quite there yet @pinkaholic !
Progress report!! I am now on 'WhatsApp' - apparently, this allows me to message, phone or video call anyone else on the app. for free. This will be great to do with Mark in Belgium but yet to do so. Downloaded the Lidl Plus app. and used it for the first time yesterday!! Onward and upward!!
Making slow progress with new phone!! Have added a few more people to my 'contacts'. Now found 'messages' and can send and receive. Found 'outlook' and emails but now can't remember how I did it!! It seems I have unlimited phone calls and texts within my £18 pcm so that's good, although the truth is, being a miserable old bugger, I don't have many people I talk to or text!! Will continue to persevere and am sure it will (very slowly!!) get easier! Probably need @duchess advice and assistance - forgot, she's now drowning in the Bay of Biscay!!
Well, I think my sim has now activated!! One big nuisance was that it wasn't possible to transfer all the phone numbers from my old phone. So far, I've managed to get 3 people into my 'contacts' - swmbo, Mark and Jonathan, obviously!! Phoned 'home' as a trial and it rang, so something must be working!! At present, I find it a bit of a long, laborious process so got bored with it!! Will add some more later!
Very smart @harryflatters 📱
Not sure I like the 5g idea tho. I still have 4, but without a doubt, by the time I buy a new one it will be 5g. On the bright side you'll be able to have a few cool apps including Lidl.
Good for you @harryflatters , but i prefer my old trusted nokia push button, these smart phones have taken over the world, all you see when you get on the bus or walk down the road are people with their heads into them, something isn't right if you ask me
Wow I'm impressed.
Oh wow @harryflatters I fancied that phone when we changed ours last month but couldn't afford the monthly fees. We had a TCL this time, it is a new make and easy to use as Dennis gets confused with it all now. You won't know yourself once you get started... have fun.
Wow @harryflatters you've really gone to town with that phone,
You'll soon get used to it. Hope the number changeover goes well.
