@Happygirl They didn't want to go out today, don't blame 'em. I've just given them their "supper" and closed them up , gave them a little cuddle from you. I must remember to take the water out when I'm sure they are in bed for the night. It was totally solid all the way through this morning.
Infected birds have virus in their saliva, mucous and droppings (feces). Bird flu viruses spread easily between birds. Some of these viruses can cause serious illness and death in domestic poultry (like chickens, ducks and turkeys). It is rare for people to get infected with bird flu viruses, but it can happen, and people have died.
What happens in bird flu to humans?
Bird flu symptoms in humans can vary and range from "typical" flu symptoms (fever, sore throat, muscle pain) to eye infections and pneumonia. The disease caused by the H5N1 virus is a particularly severe form of pneumonia that leads to viral pneumonia and multiorgan failure in many people who become infected.
What is the percentage mortality for humans infected by the H5N1 influenza virus?
Human cases of H5N1 avian influenza occur occasionally, but it is difficult to transmit the infection from person to person. When people do become infected, the mortality rate is about 60%.
@Happygirl Thank you for looking up this information, I had no idea that humans could get it. I'll be extra careful with hygiene and keep a closer eye on the hens for signs of illness.
@Pinkaholic79 💖🦄🌺 it's because of a serious avian flu H5N1 brought over by migrating birds, very contagious among birds but not thought to be dangerous to humans.
It gets worse every year, this year has been really bad with flocks from all over the country dying. We expect them to be in lockdown until about April.
It's been expected but still sad for poultry all over the country, all got to go in, no more free range for now.
Aww bless them, @roz it will be hard, but it's for their best interests. So bird flu is still around? I didn't realise that. Guess it's not much on the news at the moment, unless I missed it. I'm sure you'll make it as pleasant as possible for them, they'll be happy chicks 🐥.
And we got through them all, non of, don't do this, don't do that, don't go here etc [@Happygirl].
I told my girls that they were to be housed. Had serious argument! In the end we all agreed not to go out!
Oh well, just another one to add to the human list [@Happygirl], @nabob @roz. I remember when swine flu was about, hubby and I had over Christmas 2009.
I thought you might have to do that @roz as I have been watching reports about the bird flu on the news and always think of you.
Oh your poor babies, there is only one thing for it roz , you shall have to get them house trained ha ha ha just joking with you.
At least it will keep them safe as this bird flu is nasty
Oh they are going into lockdown??? We humans are going to have to be very careful too as I have just seen the briefing.....
Is that due to the cold weather @roz?
