Can;t remember if this one has come up before but swmbo had a text on her mobile this morning purporting to be from Royal Mail. It said that due to Covid, usual red card saying tried to deliver a parcel was no longer being used. (pukka RM site says it is!!). We had to go to update-myitem. or some such to give name and address then they would tell us where our nearest pick up point was. The display looked absolutely right for Royal Mail!! Using the useful Who called me? | United Kingdom's Free Reverse Phone Lookup (who-called.co.uk) site and entering the phone number they showed suggested it is, as we thought, a scam!! Microsoft appear to have acted and blocked the scam site but take care folks -they are still at it!!

Just received a 'SCAM' email from the FBI. Well not really from the FBI.
Noticeable errors.
Purports to be from Mr Lussie Marthen but email address is 'kim . bright303 @ gmail . com ' so why is an FBI agent using a gmail address and why is it someone different?
Then there is fee for the needed a demand for an anti terrorist clearance certificate (whatever that is for it does not exist) which is $100. Why is the FBI asking for money? They have more than enough of their own.
Then (and this is humourous) the fee needs to be sent using an iTunes card. WHY? Would anyone actually believe this?
Finally it is signed off Mr Lussie Marthen, 'lussiemarthen303 @ aol' FBI Special Agent. So a different address to the one the email actually was sent from and now it is aol. WHY? The FBI have their own addresses.
Any one of these would have sounded warning bells but taken together they show how stupid some people really are.
If anyone really needs to contact the FBI just ask.
When you receive an email some simple questions would identify MOST frauds. Oh, and the reason for all this $5.5million! I am NOT an idiot (although some would like to think so).
The reason for the scam is just to get details of your bank account (and possibly phone number). Then a few days later you will get the real scam; move money. They know all your details as they got them from the RM scam.
When you answer the phone say 'Metropolitan Police Fraud Department. How may I help you?' or 'Downing Street Press Office'.
If they offer you Bitcoin or other crypto currency say 'Convert it to cash and send me 75%. You can keep the rest. The address is my local police station (and give them the address).'
There are so many ways to protect yourself. I always ask 'how did you manage to get this number as it is de-listed. Please wait whilst I verify your actual location as spoofing will not work on this phone line'.
Yes @harryflatters, once I had a similar txt, saying they're holding a parcel for one week and I need to pay a small fee as sender didn't pay enough, follow link to make a payment. I didn't order anything, so knew it was a scam, also once filled the form for a laugh on another occasion, gave my work address and all 0 for bank account, nothing arrived and no other txt either.
Thank you for telling us @harryflatters as hubby got caught out on the telephone with the press number one thingy and we had to change our telephone number in the end, I will pass this onto him
Thanks @harryflatters I have had these In the past.
Thanks for the heads-up @harryflatters
