I don't know about you but i have not slept a wink tonight and i have one of those long fans which stand tall but even with that, then there still seems to be no air to breathe.
I have the window a tiny bit as being in a bungalow then we have had other peoples cats jump in or foxes trying their luck too ha ha.
We do have a screen which hubby made but one push and they would be inside so i am afraid to open it any further.
What with some countries being flooded out and our Summer's getting so hot, is this, do you think something of the way that we shall have in the future?
Even hubby cannot sleep and that is saying something ha ha ha โฅ ( bless his little cotton socks ) โฅ
HAVE ANY OF YOU GOT ANY TIPS FOR HOW TO HAVE A BETTER NIGHTS SLEEP IN THIS HEAT PLEASE?
AND HOW DO YOU GET RID OF RESTLESS LEGS PLEASE, they are driving me to distraction.
Thank you all and let us all help one another to get a better nights sleep โฅ

After Dicky, Johnny and I tunneled out, the RAF dropped me some steel legs.
They were restless, but a change of batteries sorted them out.
At base camp today. Hoping to reach the summit tonight.
And they say that I am mad. Ho!
I knew we would here some excellent words from you @duchess on this subject. I'm not all surprised that trying to sit still through a performance at Glyndebourne gave rise to restless legs!! ๐คฃ I'm sure a chat with your doc about this @Happygirl would sort your legs out.
@Happygirl - now I'm a world expert on restless leg syndrome. Pay attention, everyone! I''ve had it for yearsandyearsandyears. I first noticed it at Glyndebourne ages ago, in my 30s and wondered why I couldn't sit still for an entire opera. Anyway, whilst single until I was 71, it didn't matter much, as I didn't have a TV, so didn't sit for hours in the evenings, when it's worse and also it wasn't annoying anyone else. All change now, though..... went to doc, who, unusually for him, got the drug right first time - Co-careldopa..It's a Parkinsons' drug. Discovered it's efficacy when administered to Park. sufferers, whose twitchy legs improved. How they could tell which was which, I have no idea. Anyway, I still have the first box of them, several years later. I take one when I feel it coming on and as if by magic, they calm down. Amazingly, over the past 2 years, it seems to have gone away. My body is weird; it seems to try out various diseases, like arthritis (OA), leg thing, etc., then gives up and you'd never know there had been a problem. Odd. Do see what your doc thinks. I guess it's not a good idea to take it prophylactically, but it might be ok. There shouldn't be a need to. https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/co-careldopa/ Good luck!
@Happygirl the only thing that relieves my restless legs is to raise them high and massage - pulling down from ankle to knee - it seems to get the blood flowing in the right direction again. Works for me. Pain killer drugs make no difference as it is the blood flow that causes the pain - jumbled explanation but I hope you know what I mean.
I have a plastic pillow which is filled with cold water and then the cover put on. I use this in place of my normal one and it keeps my head cool all night even in this heat. I have had it for over 10 years and it still works - only filled it once when I first had it. I think Boots do something similar - maybe called Chillmax Pillow I think that they use gel nowadays instead of tap water! It's worth a try.
Perhaps your boat trip will make you so tired that you will sleep despite the heat. Hope you enjoy it.
found this one too;
Hi, also highly recommend these cooling towels which we use wet, round our necks when playing golf. They are a godsend. Amazon have all different kinds. On nights like these you can wet it and place it on your torso. They will warm up but all you do is shake them and they are cool again, no need to resoak!! Have a nice boat trip, envious of that!! ๐ @Happygirl
It is unbearable hot and for the last two nights Mr Nabob has slept out in the gazebo with Maggie May. I joined him last night and it was comfortable and 20 degrees instead of the boiling 28 in the house! We even took the electric fan out ! I will be going out there again tonight! Highly recommended to get outside but I appreciate we CAN and how lucky we are. We have an enclosed garden and we blocked the gate with the wheelie bin and I felt safe especially now we have Maggie May as a guard dog.
We have no problem sleeping. BUT we are lucky. We will often 'sleep' all night outside, on a lounger. It is under hazel trees, so dappled conditions. The only issue we have that, occasionally, we wake up to find a fox next to us.
You may find a SMALL glass of port helps. BUT generally do not drink or eat within two hours of going to bed. Keep the curtains closed during the day, it keeps the heat out.
As for restless legs, have the legs elevated. Yoga and massage may help. No stimulants (coffee, alcohol, tobacco). It is all about total relaxation.
I've read somewhere about putting a frozen bottle of water behind the fan works, and also fill a hot water bottle, (not with hot water) and put in freezer, that would cool the bed. Re restless legs, probably worth asking Google, I don't have ans answer for that one @Happygirl .
Some one did say paracetamol for restless legs but it didn't do anything.
