So Aldi have fired the first salvo.
In their e-mail; 'Our Super Six offer will have carrots, potatoes, brussels sprouts, parsnips, cabbage and swede for just 19p per pack, available in store from Thursday 16th December until Friday 24th December'.
Last year they started at 29p on the Thursday ..... and went to 14p. This followed announcements by Lidl, ASDA and Tesco. Sprouts ended up at 9p!
Rumour has it that Lidl's Christmas veg will be priced at 19p; Carrots 1kg / Oaklands British Mini Roasting Potatoes 1.5kg / Brussels Sprouts 500g / Parsnips 500g / Red Cabbage each /Shallots 300g.
However, this is just a rumour. AND it is Wednesday.
I wonder what will actually occur Thursday when Lidl and Aldi go live. Any prediction for an immediate reduction to 15p? And who will blink first?
It will be interesting to see what happens about Christmas meat.
1 - People decide NOT to invite family and friends to Christmas dinner due to the Covid-19. Shops have too much meat, so reduced (ideal to put in the freezer).
2 - Bird flu reduces the amount of poultry in the stores. So prices rise.
3 - Aldi and Lidl fight for customers, so prices reduced. ASDA goes out of business.
4 - Everybody decides to stay in bed for 5 DAYS. Shops cannot sell their stock. Prices reduced.
5 - Tempertures are kept mild and salads are sold out. No one wants a full Christmas lunch!
6 - Russia invades Ukraine, big battle and we all get incinerated in the thermo-nuclear destruction. Turkey is overcooked.
Some of these are more likely than others, but I will not say which.
And the Lidl leaflet has no prices for their veg!
I have always thought that Aldi are far more communicative than Lidl. They do get the message out.
Yes i had the same email too @Tanith waiting to see what Lidl come up with.
Thanks for that @Tanith - wonder what Lidl will come up with! Neither they or Tesco had any cauliflowers this morning (I wanted Cauli Cheese for dinner!) but Asda came up trumps!!
