79 years ago, those that survived the first landings on the beaches at dawn, were coming to the end of day 1. It is thought that maybe no more than 6 or so who battled their way up those hellish sands are still alive -- 'lest we forget'.
"When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today"
I was born in1947 just after the war both my father and grandfather have been in the war. My father lost his toes on both feet at Leningrad. He did not do any fighting. Herr Hitler was grasping at straws and my grandfather nearly died in a Russian Gulag. My two sons and me always fly our remembrance flag "Lest we forget" from November 1st until the 15th and we always watch the wreath laying parade. @harryflatters
