Tesco created the Jacks brand to compete with Aldi/Lidl in 2018. Now they announce that all Jack's stores will close; some will become Tesco stores. Management said that they 'Learned a lot'.
I believe that the failure of Jacks was down to several factors.
The first is quite simply that Tesco has been 'price matching' some of Aldi's items. So why would someone go into Jacks (and there were only a small number of them) when they could buy at Aldi prices in Tesco (or indeed Aldi).
The second is that the quality of Aldi/Lidl products is often better than branded items rather than the cheap Jacks items.
Finally Aldi/Lidl have massive buying power, not just Aldi/Lidl UK but across the whole of Europe.
