Hello everyone.
Happy St Georges Day. I hope that you all have a very good day and that the rain doesn't spoil any celebrations.
A feast day of St George has been celebrated in England for hundreds of years on 23 April, which was possibly the date of his martyrdom. Following the Battle of Agincourt in 1415, St George's Day became one of the most important feast days in the English calendar.
The day took on less significance when England unified with Scotland in 1707 โ leading to the creation of the UK โ and is no longer marked as a national holiday.
Blue was said to be St. George's favourite colour, so it's now a custom to wear blue to major events, services and celebrations on the day. I've never heard that one before.
Flotson will be wearing the St Georges waistcoat I made for him over 20 years ago. Wish I could wear clothes like that.
We have bank holidays, etc for practically everything nowadays - BUT we do not have one for our own patron saint.
