For a while I've been thinking about buying one of those filter jugs and cartridges, I like the idea of filterered water, but the cartridges are additional waste. We don't have very hard water, but a friend of mine swears by it, her tea does look more clear and taste better. Unless it's psychological hehe. Anyways what are your thoughts please.

Much cheaper to buy a new jug and supply of cartridges! I use a filter jug. They ( the jugs) usually only last two years or so. I have a Brita one at the moment but my three previous ones were Wilko. I also use the two jugs at the side to fill it and let the water stand and warm to room temperature to save heating cold water.
Shame @Pinkaholic79 ๐๐ฆ๐บ I've just checked my water filter its an Aqua Optima and the cartridge is very large and is a half orb shape.
Just nipped over to ebay to see how much the cartridges cost. Very hard to find anywhere on the internet, but did find one on ebay. As you can see - a bit pricey so |I shall not be using my filter jug in the near future. On the plus side the P&P was free!
Might be something else to go to the charity shop.
My son uses those filter things and we used to and we live in a very hard water area too, even with cleaning the taps regularly then there is still lime scale at the end of the taps, I have been drinking bottles mineral water for years and still do so, yes it adds to the plastic waste but we recycle and until they stop selling mineral water in plastic bottles then we shall continue to buy them that way @Pinkaholic79 ๐๐ฆ๐บ
What's that @Tanith, never heard of it, will have to Google it later.
Good to hear. It says on cartridges box that they're universal @Flossy ๐ง๐ง ๐ง๐ง
Your local Freegle site might also be useful.
My mugs seem to break, mainly the handle come off! Yes cartridges are privmcey, but I'm looking at wilkos own brand, ยฃ7.00 for jug, 3 cartridges for ยฃ5.00 or 6 for ยฃ9.00. Hope you feeling better @Flossy ๐ง๐ง ๐ง๐ง ๐
When we lived in Norfolk, the water was very hard. We started using filtered water for tea and coffee and thought it was an improvement. It's not quite such hard water here in Eastbourne but we continue to filter our tap water. Strangely, we don't think drinking the filtered water on it's own is as nice as water straight from the tap!! The filters are expensive but we don't change them as frequently as the indicator on our jug suggests!
@Pinkaholic79 ๐๐ฆ๐บ We live in a very, very hard water area and the limescale on everything is a real problem.
I always used to filter the water for tea and coffee as it does make a tremendous difference to the hard water here. Much less 'scum' on the inside of cups and even glasses. The tea/coffee does taste much better and does not leave so much limescale in the kettle.
I had to use bleach last night on all my mugs as the dishwasher had not cleaned them properly - must add some rinse aid or white vinegar in it today.
You have made me decide to get the water filter jug out of the cupboard and start to filter again. Think I have one or maybe two filter cartridges in there too. Can get a bit expensive if you use a lot of water as the cartridges are not cheap.
My cupboards are overflowing with cups and mugs. I've got sets going back to 1969! We just don't seem to break crockery - over the years I have just bought more and more. Just last week I emptied one cupboard completely and put them up for free on a local facebook page. Most have gone - but it seems glasses are not wanted at the moment. Looks like a trip to the charity.
