As usual, it was a Hayday gathering for all those anti-establishment hooligans.
My Census form was now the second I filled in, it was one of those chores my husband used to do. Mine was filled in Sunday evening and posted Monday morning. I am a little surprised about the fact that so many are ignorant of the facts of what a Census means and what it is for. Has it been passed over in the school curriculum or was the subject not important enough?
I'm one of the ignorant ones ๐ , I didn't fully understand what it was for tbh, but @Tanith explained better, and it was not in my school in Italy ๐ @renatew5๐บ๐ถ
@Pinkaholic79 ๐๐ฆ๐บ That is very understandable, I was brought up and schooled in Germany and we were taught about the Census in our English lessons. The English teacher we had was very English in her way of thinking, spoke a beautiful Oxford English without any of the harsh German accent. Not only did she teach the language but also a lot of English history and the way of English life. Frau Zahn (Mrs Tooth) was very much loved by her pupils, even though we played some awful tricks on her. Later after being married my husband then filled in the rest about the magna carta and everything else about the census. Thinking back, only if the census was happening whilst stationed abroad, did we not fill in a census form. We also could not vote in elections unless by proxy.
@Tanith would be an excellent teacher but not a politician because he is too nice and honest.
I also hope that you have not been offended by my post.
@renatew5๐บ๐ถ I did think of going into teaching, but I gave that up as I only wanted to teach children who wanted to be taught. Their behaviour was terrible. I occasionally undertake mentoring and tutoring and love it.
@Janet ๐๐ฐ๐๐น 20 Police officers hurt in Bristol alone, some quite seriously. As with the Sarah Everard 'vigil', it was 'hijacked' by the usual fanatics, so called 'extinction rebellion' people and others hell bent on creating violence and mayhem. The vast majority just wanted to make their feelings known quietly and peaceably but got caught up with the mob!! @roz@Tanith
Yes I read about the violent disorder in Bristol this morning. Dreadful. Forgot you hale from those parts but glad you were far enough away from it @Tanith
I thought it had to be done ON Sunday (or as soon afterwards as possible). I thought that it was not possible to do beforehand as some event might happen that means household populations could change; such as earthquake, raging inferno, bomb explosion or having to put up 100 local residents whose proerties fell through a sinkhole.
I don't know @Tanith, I thought the same, but a friend of mine did it in the week, so I just thought, best get it done. I did it Saturday, but it allowed me to do so. Guess it's ok, had email of confirmation, surely if it wasn't allowed, a msg would've come up?
I think this might have been the first year it was allowed to be filled in before the actual day @Tanith You could do it as long as you were reasonably sure what you put would be accurate on Sunday 21st March. There was provision for you to be able to revisit online if details had changed. I did ours Saturday 6th March. I am pleased to say that none of the events you listed happened to us in the meantime!
@harryflatters Well, it was the first time that it was allowed to be filled in online. The written instructions stated 'ON SUNDAY or soon after', but as you state, the website should not have allowed anything to be filled in if it was not allowed to be done early.
I thought that the website was easy to navigate and fill in. Not sure what might have happened if 50 million people all tried to access it at the same time.
Glad to hear that Norfolk was not hit by a tsunami. Bristol on the other hand was hit by inconsiderate rioters and protesters. Could not hear the bedlam from 15 miles away!
I thought most countries undertook a census. Italy has had one since 1871. Amazing how many start with a year ending in ONE!
AND yes, it should be taught in schools. Could be History. Perhaps Social Sciences or Health. All it needs is ONE line or 1 minute of comment.

Awful what's going on now!
Not just Bristol @Tanith @harryflatters it's happening in other areas too. I wonder who's behind it all.
