Royal Institute Christmas Lectures

For anyone who wants to understand more about Covid-19, testing and how to combat, this years RICL is presented by J V-T. Not brilliant, but a reasonable basic introduction to what has happened over the past 2 years. On BBC 4. Three lectures. Should be on BBC iPlayer. Best bit was from inventor Helen Lee. AND, of course, right at the end, the dogs!

And there I thought that @Tanith had something very interesting to post but no, just more 'moronic' (omicron) covid advice about the pandemic via the Christmas lectures on BBC 4. I am so sick of it.

Lately it is rather a waste of time to even log in because all there is, is Covid. I would have thought that the Christmas Lectures had something better to offer, they really have been getting worse year by year. I spend most of the time over the festive period with ear defenders on and a good book.

@Happygirl If you have had to put up with what I have been living with over the past 3 months without respite, all the Christmas Spirit and everything that goes with it is just not there. Even now as I type the whirring/ humming sound of a sander/grinder is in the background. The weather is not much for escaping to long walks. Logging in was just a non-starter because the irritating background noise and constant niggling headaches and the brightness of the screen does not help.

The creep next door, after I asked him to keep to the building regulations on Christmas day, he told me that it is his house, he bought it and he can do whatever he likes whenever he likes and the regulations are ours but not his.

Anyway, I shall have a look in the "Food & Drink" section and tell you what we are having tonight and New Years Day.

@renatew5😺🐶 I just wrote to you on the group food and drink page that I hope your next door neighbors from hell get what is coming to them in the New Year, I really hope they do as I would be pulling my hair right out and my anxiety levels would be fit to bursting.

He sounds like a right jerk, and if he doesn't like OUR regulations then he should go somewhere else then as he is here and should abide by our rules of the country, I loathe people like him

@Happygirl I am afraid that they are slowly becoming the majority and us the minority. Here in Birmingham, the Council has a lot of these people in all departments and our Council is mainly Labour. Our time will come, as Shakespeare wrote in one of his plays - Revenge is a dish best served cold. It is now 8.30 pm and they are still at it. the sound coming through the wall is like a swarm of wasps humming, it's some kind of sander/grinder. Whilst typing, I am watching "Indiana Jones - The temple of doom", the sound is up to 45 and that is on the scale from 10 to 50. At present, he is using some kind of lump-hammer and I hear the dull thumping noise.

I always watch each year. Most of the time it is of a subject that I enjoy. However, recently, the presenters are poor to abysmal. Shame.

Wish they had said more about False Positives and Negative when testing, along with the change in rates as more virus particles are present. It is rarely an issue of what they say, but what they choose not to say. It makes it appear that testing is 100% accurate!
